                                                         MODERN PERIOD-A TIME FRAME

1.James Mill who was a British economist and a thinker wrote a book History of British India.

2.In his book he has divided Indian history into three parts-Hindu,Muslim and British or Ancient,Medievial and modern.

3.The word 'modern' means that the period in which we are living.

4.This word is used by Historians to describe about administration,art and architecture which was developed in 19th and 20th century.

                                                         POSITION OF INDIA IN 18th CENTURY

1.After death of the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb there was political instability due to which many backward kingdoms came in existence.

2.These include the kingdoms of Awadh,Bengal and Hyderabad.

3.Many kingdoms became independent such as Jats became independent in Agra and Ruhelas became independent in Rohilkhand.

4.There was also invasion of Nadir Shah in 1739 and also invasion of Ahmad Shah Abdali in 1761 which weakened the Mughal empire.

5.When there was declining of Mughal empire then many countries such as Portugal,Dutch and British tried to establish their power in India.

6.A battle between these three countries took place and British won.

7.The battle of Plassey and Buxar helped British to capture more territories.

8.Many policies of British resulted in ruining of India's economy.

9.The revolt of 1857 was the result of British's policies.

10.In 1885 Indian National Congress was also formed which gave birth to national movements of India.

11.Finally after a long struggle India gained Independence from British on 15th august 1947.
