  The Chernobyl incident, also known as the Chernobyl disaster, was a catastrophic nuclear accident that occurred on April 26, 1986, at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Pripyat, Ukraine. It is considered one of the worst nuclear disasters in history. The disaster was caused by a combination of design flaws in the reactor, errors made by the plant operators, and the lack of a containment structure around the reactor.
